The Whys and Hows of

Self-Portraits

with Julie Jacob

What better way to journey through self-expression and self-discovery than self-portraiture?

Date: Sunday, August 2, 2026 (PLUS an online group review, the following week)
Time: 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM PST
Location: Franklin Foto in N Portland/ In Person Only

Get inspired! We’ll discuss working with the best model you have: yourself.

We’ll discuss the rich history of self-portraits (beyond the smartphone selfie!)--the inherent human desire for self-reflection, introspection, and self-representation. We’ll also explore various themes and inspirations for taking your own picture.

You’ll learn about tactics, techniques, and tools to begin creating your own images.

This is a hands-on workshop, so bring a camera! (If you don’t have a ‘real’ camera, your phone will work great.) We will practice some of the techniques and you’ll walk away with a few different self-portraits to get your own journey started.
*Digital camera preferred for review/practice, but film cameras are okay too.
