Color Film Hand-Processing Workshops: Aug 5 and Aug 19, 6:30-9PM

$75.00

PLEASE NOTE: Class tuition includes a full month of usage of color developing kit & Franklin FOTO’s scanning equipment! (see below for more information.)

Also note there are 2 distinct sections of this workshop on two different dates. (Select your date below.)

In this fun and informative workshop led by Franklin FOTO co-founder Bobby Abrahamson, you will learn all the steps to hand-develop your own color negative C-41 film using Franklin FOTO’s temperature-controlled color processing kit. This includes setting up the temperature-controlled bath, loading development reels & tanks, determining correct development time, proper agitation, and washing and drying your color negatives. After you develop your film, you will then be shown how to scan your color negatives using our digital camera-scanning equipment (Please note: due to time limitations of the workshop, you will need to return during future darkroom open hours to scan the film you developed.)

Although the results of hand-processing color film are sometimes a little less than perfect (as compared with getting your film processed by machine at a color lab), the joy of doing it yourself by hand, and getting your negatives processed and scanned in a little less than 3 hours is nothing less than pure photographic alchemy!

Once you complete this class you will be certified to use our color processing equipment, chemistry and scanning equipment for all your future color negative processing needs.

Please bring one roll of shot/exposed 35mm color negative film, ready to develop. The film should say “process C-41” on it. You might also want to bring an SD-card or a USB thumb drive to bring home your scanned files. Color chemistry, scanning and developing equipment, and negative sleeves are included with the class.

As mentioned above: your class tuition includes one month of usage of our color developing kit & Franklin FOTO’s scanning equipment. For a supplemental fee of $55 more, you can get full monthly membership privileges including usage of B&W processing/printing facilities/equipment/chemistry. Please message us at manager@franklinfoto.org with questions about this option. (Basically you’re getting the color class for free to sign up as a monthly member!)

Each workshop is capped at 4 participants, so if you’re interested, sign up soon!

All new guests must agree to and sign our Code of Conduct and Release Waiver. (CLICK HERE FOR CODE OF CONDUCT & WAIVER)

Please read and sign both of these documents prior to your class.

At Franklin FOTO we never want finances to be a barrier to access. Please feel free to use our sliding-scale to pay whatever amount makes sense for your budget . (CLICK HERE FOR SLIDING SCALE.)
